With long-term survival after pediatric transplantation now the rule rather than the exception, patients, their families and health care providers face new challenges beyond patient survival rates. Better understanding of the long-term medical considerations is of critical importance in children who have received a transplant, because by nature of their young age, children face a greater cumulative burden of life-long immunosuppression.
